On The Rise: Hahna Norman
Hahna recently was on the main stage that is the Olympic Big Air set up so we had G-Don tap in with Hahna to get her insight on how she “fell in love with a plank of wood”
Name: Hahna Norman
Age: 21 years young
Social Media Handles: Insta: @Hahna.Norman Tiktok: Hahna.boards
Hometown: Truckee, California
Home Mountain: Northstar, California
Sponsors: Monster Army, Burton, Dimito
Stance: Regular
Snowboard setup: I ride the Burton Blossom 152 with Lexa X bindings. My stance is just at reference so I think like 20 inches? I recently switched up my angles to 9, -9 and I’ve been loving it. I’m also running the Burton Ion boots!

How did you find snowboarding? My cousins came to Northstar when I was 5 and they were all snowboarding and I just thought it was the coolest thing ever. I also had the movie MXP: Most Xtreme Primate on my DVD player and I would watch it nonstop until eventually I got to try snowboarding when I was 8.
Years snowboarding? Technically it’s been 13 years since I learned how to snowboard but I took a 3 year break when we lived in Italy.
Best Contest Result? My best contest result was probably last year in February. We had a Grand Prix Big Air and Slopestyle in Aspen. I got 8th in the Slopestyle and 5th in Big Air which qualified me for the Olympics and the US Pro Team.
A moment that you’ll never forget? I was coming back from a torn ACL and it was my first Rev Tour back. I had sorta been in the trenches the month prior battling the lack of confidence. I ended up putting a run together that I had never done and won the comp. Still one of the best days on my snowboard to date and I always use that to remind myself that nothing meaningful comes without struggle. You need to struggle in order to earn days like that.
Favorite Snowboard Video? Suzy Greenberg 270 the movie. It was one of the first movies I ever watched and I still watch it to get hyped. I also love Rene Rinnekangas’ movie, Sugared.
Biggest Inspiration? I’d say I have quite a few but off the top of my head Rene Rinnekangas is a big one because he’s always having the most fun and he brings an awesome vibe. I think everyone should aspire to be like Rene in some capacity.

What rider from the new generation is gonna be the future of snowboarding? My teammates Lily Dhawornvej, Jess Perlmutter, and Giada Kehaulani are absolute chargers and they’re all 15 and 16 so I’d say probably them. I ride with Giada the most and she’s one to watch for sure. She’s got this super chill style that makes all her tricks look effortless so I’m super excited for when she gets to show it off on a bigger stage.
Most Underrated Rider? Brooklyn Depriest all day. Such an unreal rider and deserves so much more clout than I think he gets. Also an incredible human and isn’t afraid of grinding which is cool.
Favorite Old Head? Sorry in advance for categorizing you guys as old heads but Danny Davis and Chris Grenier.
Best style? Personally I could watch Sean Fitzsimons snowboard all day. Don’t tell him I said that but yea I think he might have magnets in his feet or something.
Most cooked homie? Can’t think of any off rip. I feel like all the homies are pretty dialed.
Most talented rider? Zoi Sadowski-Synnott. She is the goat for a reason.
Sketchiest homie? Can’t throw anybody under the bus so I’ll say myself. I have my moments.
Is there a time where you should have died but made it out unscathed? Or sketchiest moment? There have been many haha. The first one that comes to mind was at the Copper big air in 2022. I went way too fast and G’d out on a back 7. I drifted so hard I hit Chris Laske’s snowboard on the far right of the knuckle and then proceeded to get caught in the B netting and got so folded. I hope when I die I get to see a replay of that crash cause I’ve never tomahawked so fast in my life. I was all good though!
Biggest fear? A spider or a bug crawling in my ears. Honestly anything near my ears that shouldn’t be there scares me. I’m also afraid of heights.
Favorite filmer? Some of my favs are Joe Bland, Cullen McHale, and Ted Borland
Who brings the best energy? I’d say my coach Andy Weber. He’s got the perfect mix of keeping it fun while also calling us out when needed. He’s also a top tier hype man.
Worst trick? I have serious beef with switch back 50-50s at the moment. It’s so sick when other people do them but for some reason I just look so stupid no matter how hard I try.
Dream Sponsor (Doesn’t Have to Be Snowboarding-Related): Probably Michaels, the craft store. Run Through a Wall Smelling Salts Or REI would be sick as well.
Worst Trend in Snowboarding? I don’t like when people don’t put their pants over their boots. I just feel like it would suck to get snow in your boots when it could have been avoided.
Steel or Powder? Powder for sure cause it’s a bit friendlier on the body. Except yesterday I was riding pow and I caught my toes and my feet touched the back of my head so i’m feeling that one.
Best and worst place to snowboard? Best place, LAAX or Copper in my opinion. I also love going to Brighton or Woodies PC because of the vibes. Worst place, Scaffolding big air jumps. Enough said.
Warm up or straight to business? Younger me was straight to business but now I have to get a solid warm up in if I even want a chance at riding well.
When do you ride best? On suboptimal park days when it’s snowing and I’m with the Snowboard Club Vail squad.
When do you ride your worst? Anytime I get less than 8 hours of sleep or when the group morale is low.
Interests Outside of Snowboarding? In the summer I mountain bike a lot. I also love the gym and messing around on trampolines. My low impact hobbies consist of anything craft related, knitting, crocheting, sewing, drawing, etc.
Best advice you ever received? “you can’t control what happens to you, that’s a part of your story that’s written for you. But you get to write all the words in between so write a story worth telling.”
Words to Live By? See the Good.
Shout Outs: Mom & Dad for being the coolest. Chris and Andy and all the coaches that have ever shared their love of snowboarding with me. All my friends/teammates/people that I’ve had the pleasure of crossing paths with who make snowboarding fun and worth it.
