We hit up Canadian Juliette Pelchat to get her answers for this week’s On The Rise

Name: Juliette Pelchat

Age: 20

Social Media Handles: @jubespelchat on Instagram

Hometown: Whistler, BC

Home Mountain: Whistler/Blackcomb

Sponsors: Armada Snowboards – Outdoor Research – The Circle – OSI – Oakley

Stance: Regular

Setup: Armada board and bindings, Vans Luna Pro boots, stance 20 inches centered with 6 and -6 angles

Year You Started Snowboarding: I started snowboarding when I was 3, so that would have been 2007.

What or Who Got You Into Snowboarding? My Dad introduced me, being the legend he is, it was inevitable.

Editor’s note: For those who don’t know, Jube’s dad is JF Pelchat and truly is a legend in snowboarding.

How did you get your first Snowboard? Santa Claus came down my chimney and dropped off a dope as a yellow Burton board with a leash on it. Best Christmas morning ever. Being the first child is elite because Santa dropped off my snowboard all wrapped up, and Billy got it as a hand-me-down

Best Contest Result: Winning Baker Banked Slalom.

Go To Trick on Jumps? Frontside 3 foshoooo! Just because it was the first ever trick I learnt and I could do it off anything. But I wish I had a more unique go-to trick… ill work on it.

Least favourite trick?  Backside 7 … HARDEST THING FOR ME EVER, also broke my ankle doing it, so that wasn’t ideal.

Biggest Fear? Not being able to do everything I want to do in this lifetime. #runningoutoftime

A time when you should have died but made it out unscathed? Flight home from Mexico with the Chomlacks, we flew through an unexpected storm

Favorite Video Part of All Time: We weren’t allowed to watch many snowboard videos growing up. My dad tried his hardest to hide the party scenes and B-roll as best he could from us. So, to be quite honest, I’m starting my snowboard culture journey and will hopefully have a favourite video part soon.

Biggest Inspiration: This is going to sound so cliché, but my father is my biggest inspiration. He knows how to party and have a good time, but he is also the hardest-working human I know, and I really respect that. When it’s time to get ‘er done, he locks in. Otherwise, I look up to riders like Jamie Lynn, Kimmy Fasani, Tara Dakides, Jeremy Jones, Spencer O’Brien, Leanne Pelosi, MFR, Devun Walsh, and so many more. All these legends have offered so much more to snowboarding than just skill, and that’s why I am inspired by them. Also, getting to know them personally is special because they are all truly epic people.

A monumental Snowboarding moment that you’ll never forget? Jeff Keenan’s memorial at Seymour Mountain this April was the most impactful day I have ever witnessed and showed me that my snowboard community is my family.

Steel or Powder? DUUUUDE, that’s tough, cause I’m a competitive slope rider with a calling to the backcountry. I love both so much and can’t say a preference, as long as there’s some sort of balance.

Most Underrated Rider: Matteo Massiti, Jadyn & Caleb Chomlack, Billy Pelchat and Frank Jobin.

Dream Sponsor (Doesn’t Have to Be Snowboarding-Related): COCONUT WATER and a gas company!

Worst Trend in Snowboarding: “being core.” What does that even mean?? – Maybe try being yourself.

Interests Outside of Snowboarding: Designing sh*t, doing art, trying to fly planes and cooking bomb meals on the most frugal budget.

Shout Outs: MOM – for being my personal healer and mental manager, DAD – for helping me survive my debt + Doubling me to access backcountry spots and for being my biggest supporter, SISTER – for keeping me in line, travel buddy and style inspo. Also, shout out to sponsors who believe in me, friends for always having my back and to anyone who has helped me along the way.
