On The Rise: Selin Lakatha

Selin Lakatha was back on board this past season after putting in the recovery work post ACL injury and showed up proper at The Uninvited Invitational taking home the Switch Boss Award so we had Gus Warbington track her down for an On The Rise and to sort out her stance.

Name: Selin Lakatha

Age: 19

Social Media Handles: @selin__lakatha on Instagram

Hometown: Innsbruck, Austria

Home Mountain: Absolutpark, Nordkette

Sponsors: K2 Snowboarding, Dimito Positive Mind, Absolutpark, Oakley, FineFruits Club, Blue Tomato

Stance: People would say I can’t decide. Goofy in Park, Regular in Powder and Slope (goofy on paper though)

Setup: I ride the Copycat board Network bindings and the Trance Boots from K2. My angles are 6, -6 and I always go with the reference stance.

How did you find Snowboarding? My little brother got a snowboard gifted and at one point I tried to teach it myself.

Years snowboarding? 7 years – since 2019/2020 I think

Best Contest Result? Eyof 3rd, jwm 4th, jib king 1st

Favorite Snowboard Video? Rene Rinnekangas’ HEAVEN

Biggest Inspiration? The people I’m surrounded by and snowboard with

What motivates you? Being outside, going with the flow, vibing to my music

What rider from the new generation is the gonna be the future of snowboarding? There are so many inspiring riders – to only choose one – maybe Katja Dutu

Most Underrated Rider? Moritz Amsüss

Favorite Old Head? Gigi Ruf

Best style? Rene Rinnekangas

Most cooked homie? I don‘t really have any cooked homies

Most talented rider? Kas Lemmens

Sketchiest homie? I don’t want to answer that

Favorite Filmer? Stefan Schneiker

Who brings the best energy? My former coach and good Friend Karsten Gatzka

Is there a time where you should have died but made it out unscathed? Or sketchiest moment? Probably not only one. Once I wanted to check in a jump and didn’t realize it had late pop. So on the last 20 cm of my board the late pop caught me and put me upside down, so I landed straight on my neck and luckily nothing happened besides only sore hip muscles.

A moment that you’ll never forget? When I landed my first fs double 1080

Dream Sponsor (Doesn’t Have to Be Snowboarding-Related): Monster, Vans, any Van company to be able to travel around

Steel or Powder? I’m more comfortable with steel, but would love to say both

Worst trick? Cab1 50-50 BS3

Worst Trend in Snowboarding? That many people are hating on some things – it doesn’t matter – just do what you love

Warm up or straight to business? Long warm up

Best and worst place to snowboard?
Best: Absolutpark, ropetow at Kreischberg, Patscherkofel & Nordkette
Worst: Maybe Axams Park?

When do you ride best? When I don’t care about progression and I’m just having fun and going with the flow (of my music) – fast laps (perfectly rope tow and just lapping)

When do you ride your worst? When I put too much pressure on myself or someone wants to see something from me

Interests Outside of Snowboarding? Climbing, surfing, skateboarding, crocheting, playing games, learning useless coordinative skills

Best advice you ever received? Focus on what you can control: your thoughts, emotions, and reactions – release everything else.

Words to Live By: Enjoy the little moments in Life

Shout Outs: To my mom cause she will always support me. And obviously my coach and friends. Thank you <3

Describe snowboarding in one word: Rollercoaster
