Day One - Banked Slalom

Well, sorry this is late. Honestly I forgot about it. Bomb Hole Cup was too fun (and tiring), and then spring snowboard events picked up fast. I couldn’t be happier that it was Bomb Hole Cup who marked the beginning of the perennial charm that is spring snowboarding, with its sunny skies, slushy snow, and sun burns (shout out to Sun Bum for getting us through). It went off without a hitch. Well there were a couple hitches, but that’s business as usual. Minor hitches; way better than last year.

Day One was banked slalom day and we doubled down for you guys this year. Double the courses, double the participants, double the chaos. The highly professional and experienced timing team we hired was noticeably nervous about the number of competitors, but Chris was all confidence, and things tend to go smoothly for Chris. It was the biggest race the timing team had ever worked, and we didn’t have a semblance of a plan – but I’d say we pulled it off. Either way, people were together having fun. After the race was over, the vintage board contestants took their old planks of wood to the Sims kicker, and what I gathered is that old dogs don’t need to learn new tricks, they just need to ride old boards. Looked pretty cool to us. Day one wrapped with the hilarious splitboard race. Up one course, down the other, no gear left behind. A hard booter won and we might need to make a rule next year: no hard booters. It was so funny though. Ya ever seen people try to walk with flippers on? Imagine that but up a whole mountain. Thanks to everyone who participated in day one of our second annual Bomb Hole Cup, and thanks to Ross at Wend Wax for the super special speed wax. Here are the winners:

Day Two - Park Showdown

The snow gods were looking out for us on day two because the weather held out until the very end. Cutie groms started the morning off for the Park Showdown, followed by open class, then mandatory cab 9s to begin the pro category. Some carnage was delivered – I had to find three waivers – but luckily I don’t think anyone got too hurt (hope you’re good, shattered knee cap guy). Brighton’s park crew made sure the setup had substantial opportunity for things to happen at the same time, and on the same things, and from one thing to another. Riders definitely got creative out there. You didn’t know where to look. But ya know, it was so nice to see Nils Mindnich putting it all out there in the name of the rebrand. We knew he was fast, being our race winner last year, but he really outdid himself this year.

Which brings me to the limo jam. The one rule was don’t jib the limo. I mean, we need to drive the thing this summer… but it got jibbed anyway, and now there’s a hole in the roof of it, and that’s honestly what it’s all about. People flipped, spun, and one-footed over our precious limo. The judges sat inside for optimal visibility, and Chris made sure to honk on every single hit. It was electric.

We can’t thank you enough to everyone who listens to The Bomb Hole, supports The Bomb Hole, and shows up for the community. Our sponsors, our timing team, our judges, our extended family, all of the competitors, Brighton Resort, and our absolutely solid gold staff.

THAT WAS SO FUN! See you all next year.
